About Us

Barbra Zakarian started Blackbottoms Cyclewear in 1974, sewing cycling shorts in her home for friends and acquaintances. Blackbottoms cycling shorts soon became well known for their quality, durability and fit. She was first to introduce “flatlocked” seams to the industry, and successfully expanded the product line to include tights, jerseys and jackets.

Blackbottoms’ continues to be a family run business under the ownership of Jay Elggren and his wife, Tara, with the goal of providing modern cyclists high performance fabrics, and “casual” fashion without hype or high prices.

Blackbottoms Cyclewear designs, manufactures, and distributes sensibly priced, high-quality cycling apparel for road, mountain and fitness cyclists. With these beginnings driving the company forward, Blackbottoms’ goal is to provide modern cyclists with shorts, tights, jerseys and jackets which incorporate high performance, anatomically correct fit designs that will get you noticed.

We are more known today for our vivid designs, and amazing graphics for our custom cycling gear. We want to afford you the best looking, highest quality gear that you can obtain. We love to work with teams, clubs, and events in cycling and triathlons.
